Increase in Value

Dr. LeeAnn DuMars and Bob Mayorga

It seems easy to sell your own practice…but it isn’t. This couple worked hard to get a few offers on their own, but found it overwhelming to negotiate further. Our Deal Team took the reins, got them more offers and improved the ones they had until she found they perfect fit for their legacy.

Dr. Steven Whittle

It can be overwhelming engaging with one buyer, let alone all of them. We shouldered the workload for Dr. Whittle: introducing the practice to the entire buyer community, answering their initial questions, etc. Within a few weeks, we had 17 interested parties and collected 12 offers, providing Dr. Whittle with a breadth of choices to find the right partner for him and his practice.

Higher Valuation Multiple

Dr. Helen Jewett

Sometimes we can provide a final push. Dr. Jewett identified her preferred buyer but wasn’t pleased with their initial offer. Delegating negotiations to us, we worked on her behalf to refine every element of the LOI – even the ones not on her radar – to produce a more compelling offer from the buyer, at a higher valuation multiple.

Increase in EBITDA

Dr. Deborah Adams & Dr. Pete Magnuson

Not all EBITDA is created equal. Our Analysts combed through the numbers to ensure Dr. Adam’s and Dr. Magnusen’s practice was valued accurately. Buyers know accountants who want to minimize this number in the books for taxes and would have been happy to pay them less. We ensured that didn’t happen.

Have you ever wondered what
kind of money your hospital could get?

It is time to turn your hard-earned success into the future you deserve.

Some veterinarians we work with are nearing a well-deserved retirement, while others are simply ready to capitalize on the thriving practice they’ve built.

Several are tired of dealing with the never-ending administrative burdens and staffing hurdles. Most want to get out of debt and still have money for retirement.

This is were we come in...

We represent small veterinary practitioners. Depending on your preferences and goals, our team finds your most compatible corporate buyer.

Stop underselling your veterinary practice.

“I am smart enough to know what I know and know there is a lot that I don't know. I knew that if I didn't use a professional broker, I would leave a lot of money on the table. ”

Research shows that veterinarians are underselling their practices.

You are an excellent vet. But selling your practice is not your expertise. And just like with real estate, if you don’t have a broker representing you, you get taken for a ride.

Our research shows that vets who hire a broker get 6x more offers, 30% higher value for their practice, and close deals 10x times faster. By hiring the right advisor, you can ensure that you are not leaving money on the table.

They thought that their veterinary practice was worth $700k. We got them $2,400,000 for their veterinary hospital.

“Before we worked with Ackerman, a small mom-and-pop hospital lowballed us with a $700,000 offer. We felt angry and depressed. We knew that we were not gonna accept that offer. So we kept on going and working.

I did not know veterinary brokerages even existed.  When we started working with Ackerman, they were conservative. The gentlemen we worked with said, “We will see what your practice can really get, but I'm confident it will be more than the initial offer you received.”

They did the practice evaluation and then marketed our practice to 40 different corporations. The first offer we got with Ackerman was $1.5 million. Ultimately, we sold for $2.4 million.”

Our veterinarian clients are our raving fans.
Here’s what they told us about the Ackerman Group.

“I only wanted to work with the best”

I started by asking around, and Ackerman's name kept coming up. They don’t have clients; they have raving fans. They are the largest and have closed more deals than anyone else. My vets and I are the best in what we do. Why not want the same for my practice sale. They simply are the best.

“I wanted to get multiple offers”

The more offers you get, the higher the price and the better the terms you get for your practice. When we started with Ackerman, they presented our practice to over 30 different buyers. We got hits from eight or nine of them. I never could have done all that work myself.

“I didn’t want to be taken advantage of”

Without a broker, you are at the buyer's mercy. They are professional salespeople. I am just a veterinarian. I knew that just one more multiple would mean hundreds of thousands of dollars in value, but who am I to say if my practice was worth that extra bit? With Ackerman, I knew I’d get what was fair.

“I wanted to talk to references”

They handed us a list of over 30 references to call, not just two or three like the other brokers we called. I talked to 10 different clinics that had used Ackerman. Every single one had only good things to say about their people and the experience working with them.

“We considered other brokers”

But they were smaller, seemed disorganized, and just felt like a one-man show. Ackerman, on the other hand, had a whole team of people, each of them with a ton of experience. They have helped more vets sell their practices to corporate groups than anyone else. With such a wealth of knowledge and experience working for me, I was confident I'd land the best deal possible.

“They are with you for the long run”

I didn’t want a deal paying me 100% cash at closing. I wanted some stock and I wanted to keep a small stake in my practice. All the other brokers wanted to be paid in full, immediately, and then be done. Not Ackerman. They said they’d get paid when I got paid, and they were willing to wait for their last payment until I sell everything. That might not be for another couple of years, but they are still with me, checking in to see how the practice is performing, giving tips when they see them, and just being a REAL partner. They’re just different than the others out there.

“They aren’t lifelong salespeople. They’re former DVMs and practice owners and business people”

I met the Ackerman team at VMX and was so impressed by the diversity of leadership’s backgrounds. They have been in my shoes before. They’ve built practices from the ground up. They’ve bought and sold practices on the corporate side before. I just think they were able to help me through the process better than if they were just high-volume sales people chasing commissions.

“They only represented ME.”

I heard at my state VMA annual meeting that some brokers take fees from certain buyers and don’t like to talk about it. When my practice sale was closing I asked the buyer if they were paying Ackerman anything on the side. They said no and showed me the flow of funds. I asked if there are other brokers that ask for buyers to pay them fees. They said absolutely. That alone confirmed for me that I was being taken care of.
